How to get to Crossroads Campground at the Parker Strip
Crossroads Crossroad camping picture
at the Parkerstrip, Colorado River, USA.Crossroads Campground is located about 8 miles north of Parker, AZ. It's in the California side of the river, one mile south of Empire Landing State Park. The Parker strip have some amazing views and a lots of water to have fun in any size vessel. Be it either a houseboat, canoe, jetski or speed boat, you are sure to find the right spot to monkey around while getting wet and cool. We found Crossroads campground in the summer of 2003 and felt in love right away.

A very rustic and unimproved campground
For many years, during all ours camping trips since '92, we always stayed at the Empire Landing State Park and Campground but, since we had been camping at Lake Mead for the last couple of years, we decided to check the internet for info about Empire Landing at the very last moment, Crossroads Host
Photo Album. right before hitting the road. We were very glad we did! BML had closed the place down for renovations until the year 2005, which, turn out to be close for a lot more. As of this writing update on January 7/2007 it's still closed. Back to the story, we called the people in charge, The Bureau of Land Management, they told us that it was closed and the only thing they had available close by was an unimproved campground about a mile away from Empire Landing. They said it was safe and gave us the phone number for the host at Crossroads Campground.

My bad for never checking Crossroads Campground before...
Crossroads Campground
entrance pictureAt first, because the dirt road entrance, we were very reluctant to go camping there. You will, most likely, pass it by on the highway without even knowing that it is there. Unless you know about this campground the entrance won't look so inviting. We had been doing just that for years and had never gone inside to check it out. At that particular moment we felt that we had no choice but to go there since we didn't like to stay in the crowded and more civilized campsites that are available around there. We found out we had made a wrong judgment, and a big mistake, by never checking out Crossroads Campground before. This campground had everything we liked about Empire Landing plus more, much more, to say the least!

We had found a campers dream paradise

Crossroads Photo albumWe found many virgin and unspoiled campsite. There are only 12 campsites, right next to the water with trees shade covering the river bank from the sun in the afternoon. They are all very spacious and far apart from each other. The best thing is that, most of the time, you won't find any campers staying there the hot summer months. You will find a relaxing environment mixed with a great host, small birds and, if you are lucky, wild burros and coyotes. A place where your car and river bank are right next to your camping tent, travel trailer or motor home. It come with a great view of all kind of watercrafts, boats racing up and down the Colorado River, see video. The tranquility at Crossroads Campgrounds is only broken by the sound from the supercharged engines of the awesome fast boats and personal watercrafts racing up and down the river during the day, late evening and in the middle of the night. You bet, the river is alive and navigational all day and night.

Camping at Crossroads Campground was $4 per day until '07
Picture of Winnebago
Lesharo RVCrossroad is a very rustic place. It has a clean outhouse. Electricity, showers, drinking water, pave roads or dump station aren't just available. Sometime, in the beginning of the fall season, the "snowbirds" are waiting in line to get in with their RVs and big travel trailers. It shouldn't be a big surprise... It only costs $4 per night (full day) to stay in such a beautiful place. When you take into consideration all the goodies that you get for $4 and add some river features, like; on the water bars, restaurants, a casino, lot of pretty girls (and guys too for the ladies), gas service right on the docks and even a nice, empty and free, boat launching ramp near by... There is not way that you can get a better deal anywhere else for that price.

We named a wild burro the "Burrito King"
Crossroad Campground
Wild Burro Photo As an exception to the rules on wild animals we nicknamed this wild burro the "Burrito King" and became friendly with him. He bought an advertisement pictures page from us and forgot to pay for it. If you have to walk in the dark during the night just try making a lots of noises so the animals can hear you coming and stay far away from your path. Remember that they are very afraid of you too... I should mention, and warn you of, the wild bunch of sharks, tigers, vampires, and monsters that you will find hidden in the river and the desert... Just kidding, folks!

picture. About a mile away from Crossroads Campground, in a perfect location for campers, you will find a mini market known as Lizards on the River, it used to be known as "The Right Spot" in the old days and there is still a BLM sign to that effect. Lately, the place have been going through mayor renovations and improvements after the new onwers took over in the fall of 2005. For many years it have been providing supplies and services to the camping and boating public; gas, ice, boat repair, boats, travel trailes & RVs storage and towing services to name a few. Contact them, for current information, at: (760) 663-3039. Ed, the general manager, is a very nice man and he will take good care of all your camping needs. I have been using their storage facilities, with my boat, jetski or motorhome, for about 14 years now and I never had a single problem with service.
